Custom Fields in Articles Extractor

Custom fields are always attached to a parent item, in a bare Joomla installation you can have custom fields on Articles and Categories. As you can't edit custom fields directly, the view and edit links show the parent item.

This Extractor retrieves links from custom fields attached to Joomla Content (Articles). There is a different version for categories.

Custom fields come in several different types. Depending on the field type, the links are extracted differently. Depending on your site's configuration, you can enable extracting for the different field types in the plugin configuration.

Only extract from published fields

The published and access options from the common plugin options refer to the state of the parent item using the custom field. This option refers to the state of the custom field itself. Joomla does not purge unpublished or trashed custom fields until the parent item is edited, or the custom field is actually removed (Empty trash)

Trashed fields are never extracted.

Treat fields as Link (ids)

Some text fields might contain plain text URLs. Enter the ids here.

See the Auto login plugin for more information on checking content with access restrictions

Only extract from published content

Extract only links from items that have Published State and today is between the Publish Up and Publish Down dates, if present.

Trashed containers are never extracted.

When Saved

Whenever an item is saved the content must be scanned for links again. This can be done:

  • immediately : Re-extract links
  • on the next parse be deleting the extracted data: Delete extracted data - Links are not visible anymore in Links Menu
  • on the next parse using the modified date: Do Nothing - Links are visible in Links Menu until next extract.

Some containers like modules do not have a modified date. Use Re-extract or Delete .

When Deleted

When an item is trashed the extracted data must be removed.

  • immediately : Delete extracted data - Links are not visible anymore in the Links Menu
  • on the next parse: Do Nothing - Links are visible in Links Menu until next extract
Delete extracted data on plugin save

Plugin settings might impact the extracted data. This option allows to purge all data for a plugin whenever the plugin settings change.
