Custom HTML Module Extractor

Joomla's Custom Module allows you to create a self-contained HTML unit and then put it in any valid location on a page either on module positions or in articles. Extensions like Modules Anywhere extend the options even further.

This plugin extracts links and images from custom HTML modules.

It finds links and images in the main content and extracts the background image from the options section.

Works with the Advanced module manager from regular labs as well.

Options & Settings

Only extract from public visible content

Extract only links from items that have Public Access.

See the Auto login plugin for more information on checking content with access restrictions

Only extract from published content

Extract only links from items that have Published State and today is between the Publish Up and Publish Down dates, if present.

Trashed containers are never extracted.

Include Administrator Modules

Whether or not to extract links from administrator modules as well.

Re-extract interval

This is the interval between two extracts in days.

Modules do not have a modified date. So it's not possible to find modified modules automatically.

It's recommended to re-extract the links on save or on delete.

As the content is usually quite small, extract-on-save shouldn't impact the save operation too much, delete-on-save even less. Otherwise, delete the extracted data on the maintenance page manually.

Setting the interval to zero will disable the time-bases recheck.

When Module is Saved

Whenever an item is saved the content must be scanned for links again. This can be done:

  • immediately : Re-extract links
  • on the next parse be deleting the extracted data: Delete extracted data - Links are not visible anymore in Links Menu
  • on the next parse using the modified date: Do Nothing - Links are visible in Links Menu until next extract.

Some containers like modules do not have a modified date. Use Re-extract or Delete .

When Module is Deleted

When an item is trashed the extracted data must be removed.

  • immediately : Delete extracted data - Links are not visible anymore in the Links Menu
  • on the next parse: Do Nothing - Links are visible in Links Menu until next extract
Delete extracted data on plugin save

Plugin settings might impact the extracted data. This option allows to purge all data for a plugin whenever the plugin settings change.
